4th of July, 2014

I have an affinity for the 4th of July. Even since we bought our place in Point Roberts, the allure of the 4th of July festivities on the Point has been strong for me. It is so quirky, so...odd. I love it.

This year, at the urging of the West Bluff clan, we started celebrating early at the pancake breakfast.

Coffee, juice, pancakes and sausage. All for $5. Not bad.

Also, you have to love a community that puts on a massive pancake breakfast with standing room only, but pushes the "puzzle table" to one side with a half done 1000 piecer.

Lucky Sheila sat at the kids' table.

The kids all walked home along the beach to hang out before the parade.

Then back up the beach to stake out our regular corner spot at the parade start. As usual, my favourite float was the motorized couch.

And creepiest float goes to the lady riding the stuffed cow. We weren't entirely convinced that she was real either.

Sadly, the weather took a turn in the afternoon. Beth had planned a big 4th of July extravaganza in her garden that got rained out. We had all been looking forward to it so much that we were loath to cancel one of our favourite nights of the year. We relocated to the McTaggart's cabin and partied on...

These happy little people don't even know how spoiled they are! Look at that dinner with a view!

Sophia had made a special America cake, Emma and Kate made red velvet cupcakes and we made our Regal Eagle cookies again.

It just goes to show that you can have fun rain or shine...you just need good company and a sunny disposition.
